Saturday morning thoughts

It's Saturday morning and I'm writing to you while sitting at my kitchen table.

This is a great place for me to think and write.

You ever find a place that gets you to be more creative?

The sun is just coming up and I'm having my first two shots of espresso.

Ashley and Mason are still sleeping.

I like to get things done when everyone else is sleeping.

Today, is my godfather's 75th surprise birthday party.

Tony, my godfather, literally came from the alps of Switzerland.

He has a handlebar mustache that's twisted at the end.

He is part of yodel club here in town and he's the lead yodeler.

He's as Swiss as you can get.

So this party will be filled with lots of singing and dancing for sure.

After his surprise party, Ashley and I are going out with a bunch of old friends we only see every couple of years.

It's going to be a fun Saturday.

One of the things I try to do on a mostly fun day like this is...

I try to do a few fundamentals that matter.

So today I'm going to take a walk.

Yes, walking is a fundamental thing for me.

It keeps me healthy.

I'm communicating my thoughts and writing to you.

Communication and writing are fundamental to my work, so I try to do them most days.

I'm going to make sure I pay attention to and connect with Ashley and Mason at a few moments throughout the day.

This is fundamental to having great relationships with the two most important people in my life.

None of these things are advanced or "sexy" things I'm doing to move my life forward.

But they matter.  The fundamentals will always matter.

In fact, I might change my name to OBVIOUS Fundamentals Arn. 

I truly believe that if anyone does the obvious fundamentals repeatedly and consistently in life, they can make anything happen.
